Who was the Brainchild Behind the Largest Lord Murugan Statue

The world’s largest Lord Murugan statue was built by Sri Muthumalai Murugar Trust (SMMT) and is headed by N Sridhar, a businessman from Attur. Sridhar, who is also the chairman of the trust, decided to build this temple on his land. According to him, he got this idea when he found out that Batu caves in Malaysia had the tallest statue of God Murugan. He wanted local people who could not visit Malayasia to worship and get blessings from his hometown instead of travelling so far.

After deciding to use his land to construct the statue in 2014, he took two years to initiate the process of construction. The Bhoomi pooja for the same was held in March 2016, and he appointed a sculptor of great reputation, Tiruvarur Thiyagarajan. Thiyagarajan has the distinction of guiding the sculpting of Batu caves too, so the project was in experienced hands from the start. The building was constructed using more than 25,000 people, and lakhs of bricks and cement bags were used to erect the temple. Apart from the Lord Murugan statue, an 80 feet Vel is attached to the colourful statue. An elevator is being planned so that the devotees can reach up to a height of 120 feet to have a closer look at the statue. The temple also houses an Annadhanam hall for the distribution of free Prasadam. N Sridhar also plans to construct marriage halls, medical care facilities, and an old age home on the premises.
